How to default the router (Hard reset) or load new image via TFTP?

  • How to default the router (Hard reset) or loade new image via TFTP?
I have tried to upgrade the firmware via the web interface but this failed. The AP is now not starting up into an Ethernet/Wifi usable state. I have tried to upload the firmware via TFTP however get
    TIMEOUT_COUNT=10,Load address: 0x80100000

Got ARP REQUEST, return our IP

    Can you please explain

    1. what is the right image and where can I download it?
    2. Is there a way to recover the original Image via a hard reset?
    3. is the TFTP port you are using the default port
    4. What is the block size these images should be transferred with?

In general if you could point me to document explaining how to recover the AP that would be great.
Further I don't understand the explanation
    2.3 Write firmware

1.The steps to write the firmware and enter the Debug mode is the same, need to be the module's Debug serial port and the computer's serial port to connect.

2.Through the twisted pair to the module's LAN port and the computer together, the module's WAN port and network port together.

Can you elaborate a little more on this do I need to connect both Ethernet cable? do I need to power the unit from the 5-12V port?

  • Hi,
Can you help me confirm the version you are using the WisAp - so you need to access the console and input the command 'cat /etc/wiskey/version' to check the version? if the version is 'ENG.WA.02.03.0189.20170714.1432' you will can use webUI to upgrade the FW otherwise will not.

alternative, if you don't confirm the version you only use the TFTP way to force upgrade FW.
for use tftp to upgrade you need to refer to the link - https://github.com/RAKWireless/wiscore/wiki/Burn-firmware-to-MT762x-Board#tftp-burn
Note: when you can’t download the firmware and receive some ‘TTTTTTTT’ message from the console all the time. first, you have to make sure that firewall of your PC is closed otherwise the 'TIMEOUT' error will be occurred. second, you have to make sure that the network of WisAP and your PC is the same

Can you elaborate a little more on this do I need to connect both Ethernet cable? do I need to power the unit from the 5-12V port?
<S> when you upgrade, you'd better use power 5-12V/2A adapter and you only need to connect one of LAN and WAN port . if the WisAp is normal work mode, the lan port you should connect your PC , the Wan port you should connect you router lan port. or you only need to connect the wisAp Wan port to your router lan, and then your PC or mobile to connect the wisAp ssid by WI-FI.

  • As I mentioned in the previous mail, the upgrade has failed. So there is no more Linux on the board. I'm trying to use TFTP and the connection works fine however the command line is telling me that there is a check sum error with the file I'm trying to upload. I would like to point out that I get into the TFTP screen Via " hold down reset button and power up "hard reset" it asking for a file to be transferred with the name uImage.

  • Hi,
Do you mean you can download the image to the wisAp board and just a check sum problem? i think you should send these message screen to us.
    thank you!

  • @Seven I'm trying to flash the latest firmware but if I try to upload the latest firmware. But before I can copy the file I get check sum error. There must be a check prior to accepting the file for upload. Is there a basic firmware which first needs to be burned before I ca upload the latest image?
To be clear I tried to update the latest firmware but the process aborted. So there is no firmware on the board currently. When I boot the board via push and hold the reset button and then connect power the board goes to TFTP mode asking to upload the image called "uImage".
At this point I try to upload the latest firmware via TFTP, from what I can see the board connect to my TFTP server but it fails.

  • Hi,
Sorry, i still don't understand for you said the issue ' I can copy the file I get check sum error. There must be a check prior to accepting the file for upload'

Okay anyhow let's step by step to clarify the problem:
step1, can you download the lastest fw from the link: https://github.com/RAKWireless/WisCore/blob/master/release/wisap/openwrt-ramips-mt7628-mt7628-8M-wisAp-20170714.bin?
if you can do it, we will go step 2.
step2, use network cable to connect wisAp lan or wan port and the other end of the network should be connected to your PC lan. look like followng screen: if you can right do it , we will go step 3.
    0_1520925404223_upload-9a55a37d-a05c-40ba-9e4d-4cb29a3cb7eb

step3, make sure close you PC firewall. if you can do we will go step4.

step4, open tftp tools and copy the lastest fw(openwrt-ramips-mt7628-mt7628-8M-wisAp-20170714.bin) to the tftp server directory.
for example in my PC, open the tftp tools:
    0_1520925622448_upload-ffa3db08-d526-48d6-93d3-e020b5dc2f99

copy the fw to server directory(D:\ubuntu-share)
    0_1520925849968_upload-7d2e0733-45f6-454e-94ba-fac4f3952425

step5 set you PC static ip address, for my PC i will set the static IP address is '192.168.16.123' , if you can right do it we will go step6.
    0_1520925971848_upload-8f6c05b7-a1b9-4861-ac1b-906c387762cc
step6, power on the board and fast entry number 2 in the board conlose. you can see following message: if you can do it, we will go step7
    0_1520926210474_upload-406c9d7e-e728-44e6-84ec-4513a4a76d2c

step7, input download message to upgrade lastest FW in your console, you can copy following message to you board.
    0_1520926586985_upload-b1aa6dc7-236d-407e-a34c-d40ee88c9e57

step8, input 'Enter' to start upgrade, and you will see following message:
    0_1520926665508_upload-2b4c0d18-2700-41f3-b8dd-13baa97c5377

If you fail, please point out which step is wrong.

  • Thank you this worked, I think the problem was that I was connected to the WAN Port. When I changed to the LAN port it worked great. Thank you so much for all your help.

  • Hi.
I burned this firmware and now my WisAp has lost the LAN port, PC does not see it (writes: network cable unplugged). In the old firmware the LAN worked. Where can I get the old firmware?

  • I can enter the OpenWrt interface through wifi. Here the LAN settings 0_1527899501521_LAN.jpg 0_1527899518271_LAN2.jpg 0_1527899528076_interf.jpg

Looks like your connection to RAK Support Center was lost, please wait while we try to reconnect.
